The New Forest Remembers Project

All talks will be held at 2.30pm in St Mary’s Church Hall8th October, 2012 : AGM“The New Forest Remembers Project” by Gareth Owen, Project Education & Outreach Officer….This Project aims to assemble and record maximum information about World War II in the New Forest. It is now being rolled out and is expected to last two years. It will cover archaeology, landscape and environment, personal memories, the effects of the war on lives and social fabric. A variety of methods, including modern technology (for example LIDAR data collection ), will be used to assemble data from available sources (collection of data from existing records, field surveys, and collection of memories and contributions from local residents). The organisers hope to recruit volunteers to help with the project (collection, interpretation and handling of some of the data). In due course, the assembled data will be put on line, and made available to the public via the Hampshire Record Office.Gareth will briefly review the project and explain the possibilities for volunteer involvement.
